Binance’s CZ Criticized for Raising False Alarm About Uniswap Protocol

CZ

Changpeng Zhao (CZ) tweeted last night, an hour after posting a selfie with French President Emmanuel Macron that Uniswap v3 had been exploited on the Ethereum blockchain, which the hacker stole 4,295 ETH and was trying to embezzle it on Tornado Cash.

CZ asked to be put in touch with the Uniswap team, but they did not provide direct contact information to him upon the inquiry. CZ stated that his exchange had waived the requirement for Uniswap because it was decentralized and a “strong project with lots of users, and grandfather for DeFi.”

People called out Binance’s CZ for scaring them after they realized the tweet was a phishing attack.

Many people suggested that the hack was mainly a mistake by the Binance threat intel team as they reported it, whilst it also stirred concerns about communication within the company. In addition, the situation gave people room to doubt CZ’s spokesman status.
